Mycelium Network , engraved mdf discs and digital print, 45x39cm
Mycelium Network is a reflection on the interconnectedness of living things in the Natural landscape and how it might be used as a schema for human thoughts. In this multimedia collage, I want to recall the Metaphorical diagram of the Descartian tree that has evolved into a Rhizomatic model branching into an infinite network of forking paths. I want to remind us of the connection we have with the Natural environment and how we can be inspired by Natural phenomena to better understand ourselves and the role we have to play to improve our environment. The circular discs also allude to biology and petri dishes used to grow microbial cultures.
Our behaviour towards the environment is impacted by the human gaze. Humans considered Natural environment as background for their activities, we now feel immersed in it, fully enclosed within an atmosphere and a network of soils and oceans that are now threatened by our own activities.
In this series of works , I hope I can convey this contradiction between the feeling of connection and the feeling of humankind’s loss of control over the planet.
